STRUCTURE DYNAMICS AND THEIR INTER-RELATIONSHIPS IN POLYMERIC MATERIALS NANOSTRUCTURED IN ONE, TWO AND THREE DIMENSIONS

Entity:
MICINN
Type:
Spanish R+D plan
Leader:
Dr. Tiberio A. Ezquerra Sanz (Estructura de la Materia, CSIC)
ICTP Personal:
Departamento de Química Macromolecular Aplicada. Álvarez Sancho, Cristina
Start:
1 January 2009
End:
31 December 2012
Summary:

The general objectives of the project are
to make progress in understanding the
phenomena that enable a nanostructuring
of polymer materials and polymer
nanocomposites in three dimensions
(3D) (volume) in two dimensions (2D)
(nanofilms) and in one-dimensional (1D)
(nanotubes (NT), nanogrooves (NCAN)
and nanocylinders (NC)). In particular, the
3D nanostructuring will be investigated
by dielectric spectroscopy (DS), X-ray scattering (DX) and atomic force
microscopy (AFM) in nanocomposites based
on polyamides with nanofibers (NFC) and
carbon nanotubes (NTC), during and after
applying a field of deformation or shear rate
elongacional. We also will investigate by
AFM, grazing incidence in DX, ellipsometry
and DS the nanoestructural development
in 2D for nanofilms of aliphatic polyesters
and polyamides and their nanocomposites
with NFC and NTC. We also intend to
investigate the nanostructuring in 1D (
NT, NC NCAN) of aliphatic and aromatic
polyesters and fluorinated polymer
prepared by infiltration into membranes
with porous aluminium oxide (NT and
NC) or by nanoimprinting(NIL) by using
templates made of silicon (NCAN). Special
attention will be devoted to the application
of pulsed laser deposition (PLD) techniques
for the preparation of mono-and multi
nanofilms and laser irradiation (LIPS) for
the nanostructuring of surface aromatic
and fluorinated polymers (PVDF).
