Porous Organic Frameworks (POFs) Design, Synthesis and Applications

It is well-known that porous materials are of intensive academic and technological interest due to their vital applications in different fields, such as catalyst, adsorbent, nanotechnology to name few. In the past half century, a large number of porous materials have been efficiently designed and synthetized, for instance, zeolites, mesoporous materials, hybrid metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) and porous organic frameworks (POFs). The last type of porous materials is constructed by purely organic units via robust covalent bonds. Their synthesis procedure could be described as the assembly of building units via specific acting forces.

This presentation will describe the state-of-the-art in the design, synthesis, characterization and applications of these POFs materials. The development of POF materials has attracted the attention of chemists and material scientists due to their fascinating characteristics, such as high surface area, chemical and structural designing-ability and high thermal and chemical stabilities. We start with the survey of the synthetic reactions and design of the building units which have been applied for the COF synthesis. We will also summarise the main applications of COF materials in gas storage, catalysis and photoelectricity.
