Aims

The Sustainability Committee has been created to oversee, develop and promote sustainable practices and initiatives within the ICTP. The committee's primary focus is to minimise environmental impact and develop and promote practices and initiatives that are environmentally, socially and economically sustainable. If you would like to suggest ways to improve sustainability in the ICTP, please email us.

Activities

Recover, recycle, reuse, repurpose

We have designed and currently in the process of implementing a system to directly recover plastic (PET) bottles in the research centre, which will then be recycled and transformed into pellets and then repurposed using the ICTPs Processing and Additive Manufacturing Unit, and reused in functional products, such as signage. More information and a map of collection points will be provided here soon.

Chemicals and Materials Datábase

We are currently in the process of designing a unified chemicals and materials database incorporating information from all of the groups in the ICTP. The aim is to identify and locate surplus reactants, solvents, and other useful materials and optimise their use, avoiding unnecessary disposal. This will both reduce waste and increase the efficient use of resources. Watch this space for more information.

How to recycle at ICTP

Take the time to locate the appropriate containers for each material. Pay attention to the colours and labelling of the containers, and ONLY put in the appropriate materials. Avoid mixing food or other waste with paper or plastic, as this reduces recycling possibilities. If you are unsure where to recycle any material, please contact us.

Practical Commuting Information

We recommend using public transport for easy access to ICTP. The research centre has multiple options very close by:

  • Metro: República Argentina Station (Line 6) is only 100 metres away.
  • Train: Nuevos Ministerios interchange station, connecting to Cercanías commuter trains, is 600 metres away.
  • Buses: Several EMT bus lines stop nearby, including C1, C2, 16, 19, and 51.
  • Bicycle: BiciMAD bike-sharing stations are available in the vicinity, and bike parking is also provided within ICTP premises.
