The associate research unit ICTP-SMAP is involved in the development of new polymeric materials for gas separation. At present, we are developing new block copolymers (aromatic copolyimides bearing oxyethylenic moieties) capable of interacting specifically with acid gases. A new preparative line is being developed to prepare partially pyrolyzed membranes with a better permeability-selectivity balance.
